Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) columns

Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) , is a sample pre-treatment method developed by combining liquid-liquid extraction and liquid chromatography techniques.
Applications: Solid Phase Extraction technology is mainly used for sample pre-treatment of target compounds in various food, agricultural and livestock products, environmental samples, and biological samples.

Principle of Solid Phase Extraction

When a complex sample solution passes through a sorbent, the sorbent selectively retains the target compound (aimed compound) and a small amount of components that have similar properties to the target compound through polar interactions, hydrophobic interactions, or ion exchange interactions. Other components flow out of the column through the sorbent. Then, another solvent system (the solvent of the sorbent with strong affinity for the target compound) is used to selectively elute the target compound, thereby achieving the separation, purification, and enrichment of complex samples.
Non-polar forces (reverse adsorption) are forces between C-H bonds and belong to van der Waals forces, which are relatively weak. Polar forces (normal phase adsorption) are interactions between hydrogen bonds, dipole moments, and π-π interactions, which are stronger than Van der Waals forces but weaker than ion interactions.
Ionic interaction (ionic adsorption) is the Coulombic force between the charged adsorbent and the oppositely charged target compound, which is a strong force.
