A backlit membrane switch is a membrane switch constructed with an internal layer which points and
causes light to cast through the keypad areas without losing the keypad’s tactile effect. There are a number of methods to produce the desired effect depending on power requirements, the environment the product is being used in, night time or day time usage, and the complexity of the graphic layout. Backlighting options in membrane switch keypad

It has a variety of applications from remote controls to airplane dashboards to consumer applications. Depending on your application needs, there are several backlighting options available, each offering their own set of benefits. Popular choices include:
Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
With the advent of new LED products, using LED’s to create very bright and uniform backlighting while retaining a thin package is now a reality. Whether your needs are strictly esthetic such as backlighting your LOGO, or utilitarian such as low light situations or prompting, However, LEDs create bright spots and are not suitable for overall back lighting of a panel, but rather as indicator lights. LEDs can either be surface mounted to the circuit layer or be placed on a separate LED layer.

Advantages of Light Emitting Diodes:

  • Long life (more than 100,000 hours), making it a reliable light source
  • Cost-effective
  • Efficient low voltage power consumption
  • Available in a wide variety of colors and intensities

LED color& design description

According to the design requirements, LEDs can be mounted on the circuit of the membrane switch, and the LED light can indicate the function of product operation and button selection. JRPanel can provide a variety of high-quality LED colors, SMD Type, the recommended diameter of LED window is about 3-4mm.

Digital Tube, it is recommended to use matte surface.
The LED window can be glossy surface or matte surface. But matte surface is recommended, the effect is better, not very dazzling.

Q:What type of files for artwork do you prefer?

Q:How can scratches be avoided or general wear and tear be limited?
A:Our overlays can be printed on a hard coated material which is clear and therefore can be printed on the back surface for added print protection.

Our labels are also printed with UV cured inks and we can add a clear over-laminate material to further protect the ink.

Q:What are the advantages of screen printing VS digital?

A: The quality and durability of the screen printing process is superior and consistent. The colors will not vary as they do in digital printing not only run to run but potentially within runs. Inks used in the screen printing process are much more durable and vibrant and will withstand years of use. Meanwhile, digital printing allows for more complex graphics and half-tones, but a bit more limited color gamut.

What is the difference between silver flex circuits and copper flex circuitry?

Silver flex circuits were developed as a lower-cost option to copper flex circuits. Silver conductive ink is screen-printed onto a heat stabilized polyester film. Copper flex circuits begin with a solid copper film laminated onto a polyester that is then chemically etched away to leave copper traces. A silver flex circuit can be used with applications of 1 watt or less and has higher resistance than a copper flex circuit. A copper flex circuit can handle higher amps and voltage than a silver flex circuit and has lower resistance. Due to the low cost of the polyester base material and applying silver only where it is required, the silver flex is less expensive than copper flex. However a copper flex circuit may be more suitable for dense circuit arrays or in certain environmental conditions.

Electroluminescent (EL) lighting
Electroluminescence, or EL, is a process of lighting by using DC voltage, sending it through an AC inverter, and exciting a phosphorescent material coating between two electrodes, causing them to be excited and light up the molecules. They are composed of thin films and can be printed in a variety of patterns as well as be embedded under many different display and user interface products. The only drawback to EL is that they have low efficiency as their lifetime is limited to only hundreds of hours.

Light Guide Film (LGF)

Light Guide Film (LGF) is a thin film backlighting technology that will direct light produced by side-firing or right-angle LEDs across the area that needs to be backlit. The advantage of LGF is that the film can be fabricated into almost any shape, providing consistent backlighting across one or more areas within the switch.Multiple LGF films can be used within one application to provide discrete backlighting to different graphic features. Different colored LEDs can be used to achieve unique lighting effects or white LEDs can be used to light different printed graphics on the overlay.

Advantages of Light Guide Film:

  • Manufactured in almost any shape
  • Very thin for smaller, lighter devices
  • Minimal impact on the tactility of the membrane switch buttons
  • Uniform backlighting across all areas
