Hydroxyethylcellulose is derived from cellulose. Hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) is an important non-ionic, water-soluble cellulose derivative. It is a completely odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic white to light-yellow powder that readily dissolves in hot and cold water but is insoluble in most organic solvents. When dissolved in water, it forms a transparent viscous solution which has a non-Newtonian behavior.It is the most abundant biopolymer in nature and is found in the cell walls of plants as well as in wood and cotton. HEC is widely used as a thickening agent in the daily chemical industry in addition to being a construction grade additive.
* Good water retention and thickening
* Resistance to microbial erosion
* High salt tolerance and PH insensitivity
1,Hydroxyethyl Cellulose for Real Stone Paints
It is mainly made of natural colored stone powder and has a decorative effect similar to granite and marble. HEC in the real stone paint can prevent powder splash and increase the effective working area. Improve the adhesion and anti-penetration effect. Especially the color gloss is uniform.
2,Hydroxyethyl Cellulose for Emulsion Paints
HEC is the best additive for emulsion/emulsion paints. One of the main functions of HEC is to thicken. It adds color to the paint and provides additional color variants to latex paints. HEC provides fast and effective solubility properties for latex paints and helps to speed up the painting process. High scalability is another feature of HEC.
3,HEC for Inorganic Waterborne Coatings
Waterborne inorganic coatings consist of inorganic silicate binders dissolved in water. It’s one of the most critical applications for HEC. They are either used alone or combined with other thickeners. HEC is widely used thickener in exterior emulsion paints as it is compatible with many paint components such as pigments, surfactants, emulsifiers, preservatives and binders.
