Pyrethrum extract is the main raw material for the preparation of mosquito coils, and is the active ingredient contained in the perennial herb of the Compositae family, Pyrethrum.
Pyrethrins are a class of organic compounds usually extracted from chrysanthemums. Pyrethrins occur naturally in chrysanthemums and are generally considered a way to deal with insects when not combined with piperonyl butoxide or other synthetic auxiliaries.
This property of it has been known and used for thousands of years. Pyrethrins are gradually replacing organophosphates and organochlorides as the latter's preferred method.
