Menthol is an edible spice allowed to be used according to China's regulations, mainly used for flavoring toothpaste, candy and beverages. The dosage is generally 1100mg/kg in gum according to normal production needs; 400mg/kg in candy; 130mg/kg in baked food; 68mg/kg in ice cream; 35mg/kg in soft drinks.
GB2760-1996 stipulates that natural menthol is the allowed edible flavor. According to GB2760-2001, DL menthol is also allowed to be used as food flavor. It is used to prepare mint flavor (accounting for 10%~18%), and can also be used for candy (mint sugar, gum sugar), beverages, ice cream, etc. (dosage 0.054%~0.1%).
