When raw water with hardness ions flow through resins in the exchanging filter, Ca?*, Mg’* in water are exchanged and absorbed by Na+ in resin, carbonate or noncarbonated in water is lower, hardness is down. This is softened water. When resins absorb too much Ca’* and Mg’", we will use salt water to flush resins to regenerate it. Ca”and Mg’* on resins will be replaced by Na+ in salt water and discharged with salt water. Resins are fresh and readyfor softening again.
