Custom Design Flexible 12V Polyimide Kapton Heater Film with PSA Adhesive Back
Polyimide Heater Design Advantages:
- In addition to being lightweight, polyimide flexible heaters also provide the following advantages:
- Precise heat distribution and zoning with intricate etched foil heating elements.
- Ultra-thin profile at a typical 0.007” (0.18mm) value that promotes efficient heat transfer to parts
- Very low outgassing for applications that do not tolerate contamination
- High solvent and chemical resistivity
- Ideal for extreme temperature environments such as vacuum and space applications.
- Semi-Transparent film allows easy visual inspection of parts and internal structures

What is a Polyimide Heater?
Polyimide heaters, also known as Kapton heaters, are made from Kapton, a polyimide film developed by DuPont. Polyimide heaters provide the thinnest profile of all flexible heaters, offer precise heat distribution, and excellent tensile strength. They work well in extreme heat environments or small spaces.
How do Polyimide Heaters Work?
Polyimide heaters are constructed of an etched foil element of 0.0005” or 0.0001” thickness, which is encapsulated between two layers of polyimide film and 0.001” FEP adhesive. These flexible heaters are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and wattages. Wattage ratings are 2.5, 5, or 10W/in2 at 115 or 28 V. It’s thin and lightweight profile combined with a high-watt density makes it possible to get precise heat distribution at a low operating cost.
What are the Operating Temperatures of Polyimide Heaters?
Polyimide heaters are excellent for extreme temperature environments. They can maintain temperatures from -328°F to 329°F. They are also self-extinguishing and can maintain their original shape regardless of temperature exposure.
What are the Applications of a Polyimide Heater?
Due to their thin profile, tensile strength, resistance to common solvents and fluids, and precise heating capabilities, polyimide heaters are ideal for aerospace and satellite equipment, in extreme temperature environments, and when there is a need for rapid heat up or surface heating when space or weight restrictions are present.
