Before I put my tires up there I decided to test it with my weight. I'm over 200 lbs and did a pull up and the the rack didn't even creak. It's very strong. I have some 15" tires and wheels and then some winter tires and wheels (18"). I even put my bicycle in the space. They are in there solid.

Assembly is straight-forward. since the width is adjustable, the likelihood of your wall studs being in exactly the right spot are very slim. for me the best solution was to mount 2 boards to the studs.
As for adjusting the width, my tires are 9” wide (36" for 4 tires) so I added about 3-4”. including the width of the vertical steel supports I think my installation has a total width of 42-43”.
