What is Synthetic Emeralds ？
Efforts to make synthetic emeralds have come and gone. Most synthetic emeralds are made by the hydrothermal method, instead of the more common vinyl method. The Veniul method is only suitable for the synthesis of stones that are resistant to high temperatures, such as corundum and spinel, but emeralds are silicate minerals whose components decompose before reaching the temperature required by the Veniul method. The hydrothermal method involves the slow crystallization of the crystalline seeds in a solution containing emeralds, which are pure and flawless and do not correspond to the many inclusions in natural emeralds. Therefore, fluxes are added to the process so that the artificial emeralds, after crystallization, produce inclusions that resemble natural clouds.
Emerald Care Tips
First of all, do not come into contact with acids and bases, and do not rub against other stones or metals to avoid scratching the surface of the stone. If you are engaged in physical work or strenuous exercise, take off your jewelry to avoid collisions that may cause cracks inside the gemstone.
Secondly, good quality stones should not be left for long periods of time in places where they have been fumigated by oil and smoke, so as not to damage the surface luster of the stones.
Once again, avoid high temperatures. It is best to remove the jewelry before a long soaking bath to avoid overheating that could crack or enlarge the original internal envelope of the gemstone.
One last thing, wash with water. Emeralds are often treated with oil immersion to hide the cracks and increase transparency. Therefore, when cleaning emerald jewelry, if you use acid, alkali, alcohol, ether, etc., you will destroy the filling material in the feather cleavage and reduce its transparency. Therefore, it is best to use water to clean emerald jewelry. Emerald jewelry should not be cleaned with ultrasonic waves, as this may cause irreparable damage to the stone.
