A pendulum clock is a clock that uses a pendulum , a swinging weight, as its timekeeping element. The advantage of a pendulum for timekeeping is that it is a resonant device; it swings back and forth in a precise time interval dependent on its length, and resists swinging at other rates. From its invention in 1656 by Christiaan Huygens until the 1930s, the pendulum clock was the world's most precise timekeeper, accounting for its widespread use. Pendulum clocks must be stationary to operate; any motion or accelerations will affect the motion of the pendulum, causing inaccuracies, so other mechanisms must be used in portable timepieces. They are now kept mostly for their decorative and antique value.

Here is an excellent elephant figure swinging clock. It comes with an 8 day mechanical movement which has authentic elephant style cutting on the movement board. Please note this clock has a back winding arbor, just like th original , not one of those lower quality swinger that has a front winding. Also all the numerals on the front are pinned to the surface, not glued. Please see the last picture and you can find the pins inside the upper ball. The whole clock is measured in 10" tall. While the clock is running, the clock arm is swinging left to right and right to left continuously on the brass statue. The clock portion is in cobalt blue color and the statue has old polished brass finish. This clock is in good running condition and runs 8 days. All parts of this clock was made of solid brass and steel. Although it's not an antique, it's highly collectible and extremely hard to find an original one. This clock has two handles, Arabic Dial, 3 days movement and matches with appealing brass sculpture . It is imitated from 19th French and rarely nowdays.
