Navigation mark is the abbreviation of navigation mark. It is an artificial mark that helps guide ships to navigate, locate and mark obstructions and warnings, and is a facility or system that provides safety information for various water activities. Navigation marks are placed in or near navigable waters to mark the location of channels, anchorages, beach hazards and other obstructions to navigation, indicate water depth and style, and direct traffic in narrow waterways. Navigation marks include river crossing marks, coastal marks, guide marks, transition marks, head and tail marks, side marks, left and right navigation marks, position indicating marks, flood marks and bridge and culvert marks, etc.
There are many classification methods for navigation aids.
They are divided into three categories according to their setting locations: the first category is Coastal Aids, the second category is Inland river aids, and the third category is Lockage aids;
According to their uses, they can be divided into four categories: navigation beacons, positioning beacons, hazard avoidance beacons and navigation beacons;
According to technical devices, they can be divided into four categories: luminous navigation beacons (light beacons), non-luminous navigation beacons, audio navigation beacons, and wire-based navigation beacons.
According to the setting form, it can also be divided into two categories: fixed navigation beacons and floating navigation beacons.
