Product Description
Diethylene glycol (DEG) is an organic compound with the formula (HOCH2CH2)2O. It is a colorless, almost odorless, hygroscopic liquid with a sweet taste. It is a four-carbon dimer of ethylene glycol. It is miscible in water, alcohol, ether, acetone and ethylene glycol. [3] DEG is a widely used solvent. [4] It may be a contaminant in consumer products; this has caused many poisoning epidemics since the early 20th century.
Application : 1. Mainly used as gas dehydrating agent and aromatic hydrocarbon extraction solvent. Also used as nitrocellulose, resins, greases, printing inks and other solvents, textile softeners, finishing agents, and for extracting coumarone and indene from coal tar. In addition, diethylene glycol is used as a brake fluid matching agent, celluloid softener, antifreeze and emulsion polymerization diluent. Also used in rubber and resin plasticizers; polyester resins; glass fibers; polyurethane foams; lubricant viscosity improvers and other products. Used to synthesize unsaturated polyester resin.
2. Used as synthetic unsaturated polyester resin, plasticizer, etc. It is also used as antifreeze, gas dehydrating agent, plasticizer, solvent, aromatic hydrocarbon extractant, cigarette hygroscopic agent, textile lubricant and finishing agent, glue and anti-desiccant for various glues, hygroscopic co-solvent for vat dyes, etc. It is a common solvent for grease, resin, nitrocellulose, etc.
