Chia seeds first originated from Mexico; they were used by the Maya as their main protein complement. Up to this day, Mexico is still the only place where chia seeds are grown naturally due to the perfect climate zone which is optimal for chia seeds to grow ( exactly on the tropic of cancer).
Growing chia seeds naturally has a direct effect on the quality of the seeds: South Africa has only one rainy season which means that we can let our chia seeds dry naturally by the sun after harvest. This makes a big difference in quality compared to chia seeds from other parts of the world (e.g. South America), where there are two or three rainy seasons and that's why they often apply chemicals such as paraquat and/or glyphosate to artificially dry plants faster before the next rainy season.
Our Production
Introduction:
We collect chia seeds from December to July, We keep the seeds safe after collecting them in a secure warehouse. Once an order is placed we take the seeds from the warehouse and bring it to our plant, doing so ensures the freshness and the quality of our chia seeds.
Process: To process the chia seeds, we use a four-step process to select the best chia seeds.
1) We start with the Pre-cleaning process done with a four-layer sieve, to take off other mater than chia seeds or anomaly small chia seeds.
2) Then, we put the chia seeds through a weight control machine using air to take away light or heavy chia seeds so we can keep only perfectly weighted chia seeds.
3) We can now, take the seeds into a density separator that separates chia seeds that have not the perfect density and the exact shape. The separation is made by vibration with differents waves to separate the seeds. At this stage, we select premium and secondary quality chia seeds. We have approximately 70/80% of the chia seeds that are primary at this stage. Primary chia seeds are the only one we sell and we export; secondary chia seeds are used for producing oil.
4) Finally, we put the chia seeds in an electronic separator that we control by computer to very precisely separate chia seeds according to their color and purity. We can select in one lot how much percentage of white or black seeds do we want in the batch with a 99.95% accuracy. We can also select at 99.95% if the chia seeds are premium or secondary ( for animal consumption and oil usage). That's why our chia seeds have an excellent purity compared to most chia seeds available on the market.
