Here’s an overview of the production process:
1. Raw Material Preparation
Raw UHMWPE Resin: The process begins with UHMWPE resin, which is a subset of thermoplastic polyethylene. This resin has an extremely high molecular weight, which gives the final product its unique properties.
Additives: Depending on the intended use of the pipe, additives may be mixed with the resin to enhance certain properties like UV resistance, anti-static behavior, or color.
2. Mixing
The UHMWPE resin and any additives are thoroughly mixed to ensure an even distribution throughout the material. This mixture ensures consistency in the pipe’s properties.
3. Extrusion
Preheating: The mixed material is preheated to a specific temperature to prepare it for extrusion.
Extrusion Process: The heated mixture is then fed into an extruder, where it is forced through a die to form a pipe shape. The extrusion process requires precise temperature control to maintain the integrity of the UHMWPE’s molecular weight, as excessive heat can break down the long molecular chains.
Cooling: The extruded pipe is immediately cooled in a water bath or with air fans to solidify its shape. Cooling must be controlled to prevent warping or internal stresses.
4. Calibration and Sizing
After extrusion, the pipe goes through a calibration process to ensure that it meets the desired internal and external dimensions. This step may involve pulling the pipe through a series of sizing rings or using vacuum sizing for more precise control.
5. Cutting and Inspection
Cutting: Once the pipe has cooled and been calibrated, it is cut into lengths according to customer requirements.
