High Reactivity Metakaolin Concrete
Some pozzolanic properties are present in metakaolin. However, it is not that reactive due to the presence of impurities.
Water processing is done to remove the unreactive impurities so that 100 percent reactive pozzolan is obtained. It is then called high reactivity metakaolin.
High reactivity metakaolin reacts with slaked lime at room temperature in presence of moisture. As a result, slow hardening cement, which possesses great strength.
The completely reactive metakaolin is called HRM- high reactive metakaolin. It is white or cream in color. This highly reactive metakaolin can compete with silica fume. It can be used to make concrete too.
To produce high reactivity metakaolin, kaolinite is first purified and calcination is carried out at 650-700°C in a rotary kiln.

Metakaolin in Concrete
