Principle
Rotavirus (RV) belongs to the genus Rotavirus in the family Eutheroviridae. Rotavirus particles are spherical, 70-75 nm in diameter, and have a wheel-like shape when viewed under electron microscopy after negative staining. The total length of the rotavirus genome is about 18kb, consisting of 11 segments of double-stranded RNA, encoding 6 structural proteins (VP1-4, VP6 and VP7) and 5-6 non-structural proteins (NSP1-NSP5/6) respectively. Based on the serotype of the inner capsid protein VP6, rotaviruses are currently mainly classified into groups A to G. Group A, B and C rotaviruses are known to cause acute gastroenteritis in humans, with group A rotaviruses being the most common and one of the main pathogens causing acute gastroenteritis in infants and children. Group B rotaviruses can cause outbreaks in children and adults, while group C rotaviruses have a relatively low incidence.
