Products Description
Yokan is a type of typical Japanese confectionery and a favorite healthy food among athletes. As the main ingredient of yokan is azuki beans, it is rich in protein. In addition, azuki beans and vegetable gelatin (agar) contain dietary fiber. As they contain both soluble and insoluble fiber, they help lower blood cholesterol, prevent arteriosclerosis, constipation.
They are also eaten as a non-perishable food and nutritional supplement, due to their long shelf-life and efficiency as a source of energy.
Shiose yokan has a long history and is one of the few surviving Edomae yokans. It is made by overnight incorporating thread agar, which is now rare, followed by a slow fire and the addition of Shiose's red bean paste, made from carefully selected Hokkaido Erimoshozu and pomace sugar, for an elegant finish. Emperor Meiji was very fond of Shiose yokan and enjoyed it with sake on a daily basis. Our exclusive lineup of original yokan products, available only at Shiose, are also sold as gifts at top department stores in Japan such as Takashimaya and Mitsukoshi, in recognition of their rich tradition and exceptional quality.
The hime yokan is a bite-sized yokan. This petite yokan is named "hime," which means "princess" in Japanese, because of its adorable shape that looks like something a princess might enjoy eating.
"Matsu no sakae"
is a kneaded yokan that allows you to directly savor the flavor of the bean paste. This classic yokan encapsulates the history of Shiose.
"Yoru no ume"
is a yokan studded with dainagon azuki beans. This yokan has a rich history, and its appearance when sliced was lauded by the Empress Dowager, who likened it to a fragrant white plum flower blooming in a nighttime garden.
"Wakamidori"
is a yokan distingushed by its tea-infused flavor. This popular flavor is characterized by the gentle taste of green tea that fills the palate.
"Kimigayo"
is a yokan made of brown sugar sourced from Okinawa. Brown sugar, produced from sugar cane grown in Okinawa, is abundant in nutrients such as minerals and calcium. This yokan is popular for its sweet flavor.
"Shiose matcha"
