A marine fire pump provides water to extinguish any fire on board and is an integral part of the FiFi system. As part of a fire sprinkler system, fire pumps receive water from a groundwater source or from a tank, lake or reservoir and are powered by electricity or diesel. The high pressure provided by the pump distributes the water through the sprinkler system and hose risers. Most ships require more than one of these devices. Having a fire fighting system on board is essential.
