Mercury Open Optical Module KY-017 Tilt Switch

A Mercury Open Optical Module KY-017 has a mercury blob as a means to close its internal contacts. If the switch is level, the mercury bridges the 2 contact points. But if the switch is tilted, the mercury moves on one side and the contact points are open.

The Keyes Mercury Open Optical Module KY-017 is a simple and effective motion detecting module. When your autonomous vehicle or robot is tilted the mercury ball inside the tube will move to complete an electrical circuit which will in turn send a signal to your Arduino control system. Commonly used in bike anti theft system where tilt is detected and alarm or SMS is sent to the owner.

Mercury Open Optical Module is a switch that responds to movement. It uses a small mercury ball that completes the circuit when the module is tilted.

Compatible with many electronics platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32 and others. For less sensitive tilt detection use the KY-020 tilt switch.

Mercury Open Optical Module and a digital interface, built-in 13 LED build a simple circuit to produce tilt warning lamp 13 comes with digital interfaces of the LED, the mercury tilt switch sensor interface to access digital 3, when the tilt switch sensor senses a key signal, LED lights, otherwise off.

This consists of a mercury switch, a 680 resistor and a LED that will light up when tilt is detected. The mercury ball will open/close the circuit when the module is rotated.
