What are Ethiopian opals?
About Ethiopian Welo Opals . Just recently a new discovery of gem crystal and hydrophane Opal was discovered in Ethiopia. Ethiopian Opal was found in Gondar which was at first called desert Opal but it is from a plateau in the highlands.

What is the color opal?

Fire opal is a transparent to translucent opal , with warm body colors of yellow, orange, orange-yellow or red. It does not usually show any play of color , although occasionally a stone will exhibit bright green flashes.

What are opals made of?

Opal is formed from a solution of silicon dioxide and water. As water runs down through the earth, it picks up silica from sandstone, and carries this silica -rich solution into cracks and voids , caused by natural faults or decomposing fossils. As the water evaporates, it leaves behind a silica deposit .
