Light Weight & Easy to Carry
Innovative Features
1. One piece collapsible reflectors
The Collapsible Solar Box Cooker can be set up for use or taken down for storage in a matter of seconds. The reflectors literally fall into place at an angle that allows you to maximize the power of the sun. The reflectors are made of highly polished, mirror-like anodized aluminum that can be cleaned quickly and easily with glass cleaner, and they will never oxidize or rust.
2. Spill-proof levelator
There is never any need to worry about your food spilling in a Collapsible Solar Box Cooker. While cooking, your food rests on a shelf that self adjusts to always stay level as you refocus.
3. Easy temperature monitoring
A built in thermometer allows you know the temperature at a glance through the tempered glass door/lid.
4. Self-contained leveling leg
As the sun is at different points on the horizon the oven can readily be adjusted to follow it. A simple adjusting leg allows you to choose from 9 angled positions.
5. Extremely well insulated
A thick batt of non-toxic insulation retains heat. Food cooked in the sun and left in the oven will remain hot for hours. Cold air is held out allowing it to be used on sunny days year around regardless of the ambient temperature.
6. Light weight, easy to carry
The Collapsible Solar Box Cooker weighs only 21 pounds (9.5 kg), folds up like a suitcase, and is equipped with a handle for easy transport.
Solar Cooking-Why? Comparing with Conventional Cooking
1. You may have realized that the energy from the sun is free.
2. It uses none of our limited natural resources that are currently being used for other energy applications in our modern world. It is good for our environment.
3. It can be a more healthy way of preparing our foods for consumption as opposed to gas, smoky open fire, microwave etc. because it uses the natural power of the sun's energy. And, best of all, it preserves more of the natural nutrients of the foods by cooking at slower and lower temperatures.
- Since solar ovens are used outdoors, unwanted heat will not cause temperature rises indoors as with conventional stoves, saving even more energy.
- It can also be a very enjoyable hobby or pastime, especially for those who love to cook.
- Being able to solar cook is a great advantage in times of trouble, disasters, and power outages; ...consider it an important tool in your emergency preparedness supplies.
- And one of the most important reasons for using solar cooking: it is giving people around the world a hand up. It is a vital instrument for a more comfortable, healthy and better way of life by giving them a feasible alternative to the costly, time consuming chore of cooking over and tending fires, as well as the dangerous and time consuming necessity of scavenging for cooking fuels in desolate and dangerous country sides distressed by famine, war and political turmoil.
- Of Course, Solar cooking is just one choice in a multi-faceted field of alternatives and options that comprise the solar energy domain.
Doesn't it take longer to cook using solar energy?
1. Yes, it can take longer with some foods, but with others the time required is almost as quick and efficient as traditional cooking methods.
2. Solar cooking can be compared to the "slow and low" temperature of Dutch oven or Crockpot methods of cooking.
3. Depending upon the time of day and even the time of year, your cook time will vary.
4. The biggest advantage to solar cooking is that you can leave it to cook on its own without the need to constantly tend it. It's almost impossible to burn the food.
How much food can be cooked at one time?
If you plan on cooking large meals for numerous amounts of people you will definitely need more than one solar cooker. Most solar cookers can cook enough food to serve about 4-6 people depending upon the dish and the variety of food desired. Single food dishes are easier to do in substantial amounts by using a large cooking pot. Remember though that; the larger the pot and food quantity, the longer it needs to cook. If you want to cook more than one item, some solar cookers do not have sufficient room for many and different sized cooking pots.
Can solar cooking replace the conventional methods of cooking?
For some it can; and has done so. Granted, there are some limitations with a solar cooker, especially when it comes to preparing complex and structured recipes and of course weather and some locations also are factors. But, it is possible to cook every day that there is sunshine by planning and organizing ones meals ahead of time in order to take advantage of the sun's energy as it is available. (I have found though, by much use and experimenting, that the amount and variety of foods and dishes that can be cooked in a solar cooker are quite substantial. I have cooked everything from cookies and cakes to pastas and pizza, chickens and roasts to corn on the cob and baked beans; there really is no limit if you experiment with each dish.)
Where to use a solar cooker
1. You can use them whilecamping; they are portable, no fire to worry about, and you can return to a cooked meal after leaving it to cook while away hiking.
2. At the beach to cook seafood, hotdogs, and more, or just warm up the already cooked foods you bring.
3. Great for RV'rs, boaters and fishermen
4. Out on the patio at home with the grill and other outdoor accessories to supplement your outdoor entertainment
