Stainless Steel vs. Copper Piping
Stainless steel is better at resisting corrosion. Copper has a higher melting point than stainless steel, making it more expensive to manufacture.
Stainless steel is 2.5 times stronger than copper and performs better in stress and strain tests. Stainless steel is approximately three times as strong as copper and can withstand high temperatures and pressures without any issues.
Copper is a malleable metal that is easier to bend and cut but unsuitable for high-pressure applications or high temperatures.
Stainless steel’s strength and rigidity make it ideal for long-term installations. Often, stainless steel requires less support than copper. Because stainless steel can have a thinner wall than copper tubes, it may be easier to install.

Seamless steel pipe vs. welded tube
Using seamless tubing allows you to avoid the potential for defects and differences in malleability that may be associated with the welded area in welded tubes. Unlike welded tubes, seamless tubes do not require testing for weld integrity. Therefore seamless tubing is often more suitable for critical applications.
Material Grade of Stainless Steel
304 Stainless Steel
AISI 304 stainless steel (UNS S30400) is the most widely used stainless steel, containing 18-20% Cr and 8-10.5% Ni, and also known as 18-8 stainless steel. SS 304 is non-magnetic under annealing conditions, but after cold working (such as stamping, stretching, bending, rolling), part of the austenite structure may be converted into martensite and therefore weakly magnetic. Type 304 has good resistance to atmospheric corrosion and oxidation. The high nickel-chromium alloy content gives it excellent corrosion resistance and is widely used in the food industry as a standard food grade stainless steel.
There are several variants of 304 grade stainless steel, such as ultra-low-carbon version type 304L, nitrogen-containing version 304N, 304H with improved creep performance, and type 302 with higher carbon content.
Applications
AISI 304 stainless steel is widely used in petroleum & chemical industry, metallurgical machinery, aerospace industry, food processing equipment, instruments, household appliances and hardware manufacturing industries.
SS304 material is made into a great many intermediate products such as steel sheet & plate, steel tube & pipe, steel bar & flat, rod & wire, etc.
Final products such as all kinds of kitchen ware, tableware, medical device, machinery and parts, wire mesh, filters, architectural and decorative products, etc.
316 Stainless Steel
AISI 316 stainless steel (UNS S31600) is the second most commonly used austenitic stainless steel. Due to the addition of Molybdenum (Mo), SS 316 has a great improvement in corrosion resistance and certain properties compared to SS304.
316L stainless steel (UNS S31603) is the low carbon version of AISI 316. SS 316 is better than SS 304 in terms of corrosion resistance, heat resistance and certain properties, but the price is higher than AISI 304.
Applications
The main uses of AISI 316 stainless steel are heat exchangers for pulp and paper equipment, dyeing equipment, film processing equipment, pipes, solenoid valves, clamps, spheres, valve bodies, valve seats, nuts, valve stems, flanges, and materials for exterior use in coastal areas, etc. Also used in marine environment and used as food grade stainless steel.
410 Stainless Steel
AISI 410 stainless steel is one of the most commonly used martensitic stainless steels. It contains about 12% Cr and therefore provides moderate corrosion resistance. Unlike austenite such as AISI 304 and AISI 316, martensite such as grade 410 is magnetic and can be hardened by heat treatment like carbon steel and low alloy steel. SS410 has good tensile strength, creep and fatigue strength and other mechanical properties, mainly used in steam turbines, jet engines and gas turbines.
Applications
Type 410 steel is the basic general-purpose steel used for steam valves, tray valves, pump shafts, turbine blades, bolts and miscellaneous parts that require corrosion resistance and moderate strength up to 540°C (1000°F).
