The point angle on a drill has an influence on the strength of the chisel edge and periphery corner. The chisel edge will be stronger with a blunter point, however this weakens the periphery corner. Application specific drills generally have a blunter point (130°- 140°) due to a combination of these effects, but also because hole accuracy improves with the increase of point angle.
