The actual gate frame size is calculated 1ft less than stated height to allow for rollers top and bottom, and with size of the opening plus 50% for counter balance of length. For example, if the gate opening is 20 feet, the actual gate size will be 30 feet. Normally, the post sizes used for cantilever gates are 3" and 4" OD (outside diameter) pipe based on the opening size. Openings greater than 20 ft will have 2 4" gate posts and 3" latch posts. Gate frame has 2.375" OD pipe horizontals, and 1.660" OD pipe vertical and diagonal members. Cantilever gates are mounted on 3 posts; 2 are mounted with 4 rollers, one for each top and bottom. The 3rd post is the latch post where cantilever latch assembly is mounted for latching and locking.
In general, chain link cantilever gates
require 3" O.D. (outside diameter
) roller posts for widths up to
10' opening size.
