UTI (Urinary Tract Infection urine reagent strips) is caused by bacterias directly attacking our body. It has upper urinary tract infection which is mainly for pyelonephritis  and LowerUrinaryTract which is for urethrinitis and cystitis. Women patients will be more than men.

False Positives and False Negatives

-A false negative result can occur during the early stages of a UTI or if the urine is diluted

-Testing an old urine can give a false positive result on the nitrite pad as normal bacterial flora (contamination from the urethra) can replicate quickly in the urine sample as time goes by. Please test urine specimens within 2 hours of collection to avoid false positive results.

- False negative results may appear on the nitrite pad when other types of bacteria that don’t convert nitrate to nitrite are present in the urine.

-A false negative leukocyte esterase test can result when there are high levels of glucose in the urine, the urine has a high specific gravity, or antibiotics are being taken.

-A false positive result can occur for both the leukocyte or nitrite pad in highly colored urines or if the strips have gone bad.
