Calcium oxide, chemical formula CaO, also known as quicklime, is an inorganic compound.
The appearance of calcium oxide is white powder, if it is not pure, it may appear grayish white or light yellow or gray when containing impurities. It has hygrometric property, and can react with water to produce calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2, and generate a lot of heat, while releasing carbon dioxide. Its density is 3.35g/cm³, its melting point is about 2572℃, and its boiling point is about 2850℃, and it is insoluble in ethanol. But soluble in acid and glycerin.
