Wenge, as it is commonly known is mostly distributed from DR Congo, Cameroon, and Gabon.Its heartwood has a rich dark brown colour with a very close, fine, almost black vein, and a relatively straight grain.Wenge is classed as a hardwood that has a heavy density and low qualities for steam bending. This timber can be worked with hand tools with a moderate blunting effect.
It is generally a slow drying lumber, in order to avoid surface checking, with a small amount of movement in service.
