Soft & Hard Enamel Coins
The “soft enamel”, an industry term, is the meaning of the color fill process used to create the challenge coin. Recessed areas will be filled with liquid enamel by using a tiny needle, and are surrounded by raised metal as a line to contain the enamel well. After baked and polished, the challenge coin can be ready for package and delivery. If you rub your fingers over your custom soft enamel coin you will have a layered feeling.The process of hard enamel is always made from great material and costs a little more.Soft enamel coin is the most popular option for customers and is provided at a cost-effective price.
Antique Die Struck Coins
The diestruck antique coins come in a variety of plating colors (gold, silver, bronze, copper etc) and allow for very intricate designs to render well on the final product. The raised details will be a little shinier relative the darker recessed areas on the completed coins, so make sure your art is set up with that in mind. Custom diestruck challenge coins can be produced faster than enamel coins so they're a great solution if you need challenge coins quickly. Customers frequently order this challenge coin style when wanting to replicate a distressed looking artifact or pirate coin.
Sand Blast Polish Coins
We recommend this style if you're looking for an all metal, shiny challenge coin with no enamel. The raised areas on the coin are polished to give them a shiny appearance compared the recessed, sand-blasted (read: textured) background. Since light will reflect off the polished areas, some of the shiny details will be tough to see at certain angles. Choose this option if you want a challenge coin that looks like it was minted.
Photodome Printed Coins
Photodome coins are best when the selected design is a photograph or a logo with gradients or especially small, color details. We offset print the design onto the metal challenge coin and then cover the print with a protective epoxy dome. The epoxy dome coating can reflect light causing some of the colors to look a little different than the original art, but it's the best manufacturing method when trying to create a custom photo coin.
Dimensionally Printed Coins
Dimensionally printed challenge coins imitate the look of enamel without the high costs of creating a custom mold. They're also produced in 10 working days and most designs translate well (even those with small details). This is a versatile production method that uses high quality brass findings so the coins will have a substantial weight to them.
Use our hybrid printing process to customize a premium, brass or nickel silver coin. The raised print on top of epoxy imitates the feel of an enamel coin.
