1. controller with two schemaitc, one is linear ,linear mean battery votlage =led chip voltage ,that mean if you use 3v battery ,your led chip is 3v ,and all 3v led chip in parallel 2.Boost controller is 3.2v boost to 15-24V or 6.4V/12.8V boost to 15v to 36V ,boost is constant current ,that mean your battery is 2 series or 4 series ,and your led chip is aslo in sereis ,like 5c12b ,if you use 6v led chip ,the output led chip votlage is 5*6v=30v, if with 3v led chip ,the output led chip voltage is 5*3v=15v 3. linear schematic is cheaper ,but effiency is low ,about 80-85% ,boost schematic is a little expensive ,the effiency is 91-95% , for example ,if you do 30w power ,battery ouput is 30w ,but your led light power is 30*0.8=24w for lienar, and for your boost is 30*0.93=28w ,the loss is bigger ,the big current for linear ,30w /3v =10a current for linear ,and only 30w/30v=1a current for boost
