Wall mounted reservoir sluice gate channel penstock for sewage treatment plant and water diversion project
A penstock is essentially a gate valve to control or isolate the flow of water. Penstocks are also used to control water levels to ponds, reservoirs and wetland areas.
Penstocks or sluice gates are the equivalent of valves used to control the flow of running water. Penstock / Sluice gates mainly consists of a sort of a sturdy mobile vertical wall, of various material.
Work principle of the p enstock / sluice gate :
The amount of water that is allowed to flow through the penstock can be controlled with a sluice/ penstock, which is simply a gate that can be raised and lowered to increase or decrease the amount of water allowed to flow through it.
When the penstock is fully open, water flows freely down through the penstock. However, when it is closed slightly there is a limitation to how much water can flow, and thus less water enters or flow through the penstock.
Types of penstock / sluice gate:
Wall Penstock, Channel Penstock and Weir Penstock
Types of penstock | Application |
Wall Mounted Penstock |
Wall Mounted penstock is also called as flange mounted penstock or submerged sluice gate. Wall Mounted Penstock / Sluice gate is generally used for wall installation where it is necessary to intercept and control the flow of the fluid from inlet or outlet both at circular section and rectangular or square geometric section. |
Channel Mounted Penstock |
Channel Mounted Penstock is generally used for installation in channels where it is necessary to intercept and control the flow of fluid or, for example on the outlet or the inlet of a channel. It has three-side sealing channel penstock or gate for open channels square or rectangular sliding channel gate, with fixed parts embedded in concrete and seals on 3 sides. |
Weir Gate |
Weir gate also called as downward opening weir gate. The function of a down-opening weir gate is to control the upstream water level, and/or pace the amount of discharge from a water system. At times there will be a level control sensor in the system which is directly connected-controlling a modulating electric operator to automatically pace the amount of flow discharged and/or maintain a constant upstream water depth. |
