in the world. This is a kind of composite material which is based on thermoplastic resin and reinforced by long glass fiber felt
or continuous fiber felt. GMT has the advantages of material and technological properties, and can be implemented in large-scale
production, so it plays a great role in replacing traditional materials.

Specification
Glass-mat reinforced thermoplastic (GMT) is a semi-finished composite product consisting of a thermoplastic matrix and randomly oriented fibres. In most cases, the matrix material is polypropylene (PP) reinforced with glass fibres.
The most common method of manufacturing GMT parts is compression moulding. In this process, a batch of the raw material is preheated in an oven to a temperature above the melting temperature of the matrix. Then the batch is placed in a cold mould, which is closed rapidly. A high pressure is applied on the mould to force the GMT to flow and thus to fill the mould. The mould is held closed until the enclosed composite has reached a temperature at which it is solid enough not to be deformed by subsequent handling, whereafter the part is demoulded. With compression moulding it is possible to reach fairly short cycle times, usually less than a minute, which makes the method economically attractive.
Products moulded from the GMT are most common in the automotive industry where they are mainly used in secondary structures, such as front ends, battery trays, seat frames and dashboard frames.
