1. Use a quality adhesive: Ensure that the adhesive you are using is specifically designed for ceramic tile installation and is appropriate for the type of substrate (surface) you are tiling onto.

2. Prepare the substrate: The surface where you will be installing the tiles must be clean, level, and free of any debris, cracks or defects. Any imperfections in the substrate can cause the tiles to crack or break.

3. Use the right trowel size: The size of the trowel will depend on the size of the tiles being used. The larger the tile, the larger the trowel should be. Using the wrong size trowel can lead to improper adhesive coverage, causing the tiles to crack or loosen over time.

4. Allow for movement: Expansion joints and movement joints should be installed in areas where the tiles will be subjected to movement or stress. These areas include transitions between different flooring materials or where the tiles meet a wall or other fixed object.

5. Allow for proper curing time: After installation, allow the adhesive to cure for the recommended time before grouting. Rushing this step can cause the tiles to move and crack.

6. Handle tiles carefully: When handling the tiles, avoid dropping them or hitting them against hard surfaces as this can cause them to crack or break.
