Boron has several allotropes, amorphous boron is also called elemental boron, monomer boron. It is a brown powder or a gray glossy crystal with relatively active chemical properties. Stable at air and room temperature. Heat to 300℃ is oxidized, 700℃ is on fire. When burning, the flame is red, and the trace of vaporized boron flame is green. Insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid, ethanol, ether. It can be dissolved in cold concentrated alkali solution and decomposed into hydrogen, and oxidized to boric acid by concentrated nitric acid and sulfuric acid. At high temperatures, boron can interact with oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, halogens and carbon, and boron can also be directly combined with many metals to produce borides. Boron reacts with organic compounds to form compounds where boron is directly associated with carbon or where there is an aerobic presence between boron and carbon.
In the periodic table, monomer boron is in a special position to divide elements into metals and nonmetals. It is an element with non-gold properties, strong electronegativity, small atomic radius, nuclear charge concentration, and non-metallic properties similar to silicon. Its density is 2.35g/cm3. Hardness 9.3, specific gravity is 2.33-2.45, melting point: 2300℃, boiling point: 2550℃.
