Hall effect sensor, also known as Hall sensor, is a transducer that converts the changing magnetic field into the change of output voltage. Hall sensors are first used to measure magnetic fields. In addition, they can also measure the physical quantities that produce and affect magnetic fields, such as proximity switches, Hall, position measurement, speed measurement and current measurement equipment.
The simplest form is that the sensor acts as an analog transducer and returns a voltage directly. Under known magnetic field, the distance from the Hall disk can be set. With multiple sets of sensors, the relative position of the magnet can be inferred. The current passing through the conductor produces a magnetic field that varies with the current, and the Hall effect sensor can measure the current without disturbing the current. Typically, it is integrated with the winding core or the permanent magnet beside the conductor under test.
In general, Hall effect sensors are connected to circuits, allowing devices to operate in digital (on/off) mode, in which case they can be called switches. Common equipment in industry, such as cylinders, are also used in daily equipment, such as printers that use them to monitor paper shortages and open covers. When the keyboard is required to be highly reliable, Hall sensors are also designed in the keyboard.
Hall effect sensors are usually used to measure the speed of wheels and axles, such as ignition timing (timing) or tachometer of internal combustion engines. It is used in brushless DC motor to detect the position of permanent magnet. The wheel shown here has two equidistant magnets, and the voltage on the sensor will peak twice in a cycle. This setting is usually used to calibrate the disk drive speed.
